  Two Liter Bottles
Posted by: yahoo - 11-23-2004, 09:29 AM - Forum: Archives - Replies (1)

Anyone here know a source where I can buy new 2 liter bottles, possiblywholesale? I don't drink enough soda to satisfy my homebrewing needs, especially since I started making my own colas and such, and it seems kindof wasteful and expensive to buy cokes just so I can use the bottles to makemy own. It would be much nicer to just buy the new, empty bottles as I needthem. Surely the soda companies don't have a monopoly on them...AmberORGINAL POSTER: amber

I would go for a straight hard cider or a cran-apple cider. Don'tadd ANY sugar and expect alcohol in the 4-6% range. You can shortenfermentation time by putting the drink someplace warm, like on top of awater heater or into a cooler that you've placed other bottles with hot tapwater. Good luck and let us know how it turns out and what your hydrometersays. At 11:06 AM 11/21/2004 +0000, you wrote:>Which concoction ferments in the shortest amount of time? i'm looking>to prepare something to be ready in 2-3days (by thanksgiving Big Grin ).   Re: [E-Z-Caps] Chemical Clarifier & Carbination
Posted by: yahoo - 11-19-2004, 07:19 AM - Forum: Archives - Replies (1)

Before EZ Caps the beverages were usually carbonated AFTERfermentation. You can probably still use bentonite with EZ Caps but Idon't know if it will work as good. Generally you would ferment withoutcarbonation, clarify, then bottle with priming sugar. At 02:12 PM 11/19/2004 +0000, you wrote:>Hello,> I was wondering if a clarifier like bentonite or any others will>hurt or destroy the carbination in the wine?> I used speedy bentonite with my latest batch (not carbonated) and>it was cleared and ready to go in about 8 hours. I opened it upto smell it and noticed it had an egg type smell or a bad egg typesmell. This is Welches white grape juice that I used. Any ideas why itis like this? If that's the case the smell should improve with time. There isalways going to be a NATURAL "yeasty" smell with any alcoholic beverage notsubjected to a lot of clearants. At 01:44 AM 11/16/2004 +0000, you wrote:>--- Steve wrote:>>It tastes fine but smells kind of funny.
