new customer questions - Snowball - 11-11-2011 Hi Steve. This is my first attempt with the caps.. some questions: 1) are the caps reusable ? 2) it's winter approaching, and I don't have access to any area warmer than a consistent 60-64 degrees. How many days should I leave the bottle fermenting @ say 60 degrees ? 3) slush is elevated to the upper level of the bottle. I rolled the bottle around to mix it every day, is that bad ? 4) when ferm is complete, should i sieve thru a coffee strainer ? you're going to laugh at what I made. about 80% cranberry juice, 2 green apples, 2 prunes, a small box of raisins (solids liquified in a blender) 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 1/2 cups white sugar. I'm hoping to max out the %. Also, any vendor suggestions or tips for small distilling tools which I could use say if I wanted to boil the mix on a gas range, collect the vapor from a pot, how much time would that take ? thanks, Ron from RI. :? appreciated Re: new customer questions - smokediverxxx - 11-15-2011 I'm not Steve, but I have used these for a year. 1. yes 2. no big difference 3. yes 4. it will only filter out the "big" stuff - your still gonna have some trub on the bottom of the bottles Hope this helps.... ENJOY! Re: new customer questions - Snowball - 11-16-2011 thanks, smokediver. i won't be rolling around the bottle anymore, just let it sit. oh, i was also wondering; is it ok to lay the bottle on its side ? Re: new customer questions - smokediverxxx - 11-17-2011 you can, but i would not recommend it. the trub (dead yeast) will go to the lowest point in the bottle. it will come out as you pour and make your brew cloudy - it won't hurt you, but it's know to give some people gas  or uuuuhhh, loose stools hock: Re: new customer questions - mikemojc - 01-05-2012 Also please note: If the bottle is on its SIDE, then the pressure valve that usually sits on the top will now release liquid instead of air. hock: |
