I've used a coffee filter but found it got clogged up quickly with sediment making the flow VERY slow.I thought it would work well but was not satisfied with the results.--- On Thu, 1/14/10, tcguya9 wrote: From: tcguya9 Subject: [E-Z-Caps] Filtering wine To: E-Z-Caps@yahoogroups.com Date: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 1:50 AM I know you can filter wine using cheesecloth, but was wondering if anyone has ever used a coffee filter. I am wondering if there would be any chemicals in the paper filter that would affect the wine. What do you think?ORGINAL POSTER: brinx

Who is to say there aren't more chemicals in cheesecloththan there is in filter paper? It's usually from someplace likeChina, bleached, and questionably stored. I think either way you aredealing with something that is so neglible it is probably insignificant. At 04:50 PM 1/13/2010, you wrote:>I know you can filter wine using cheesecloth, but was wondering if>anyone has ever used a coffee filter. I was checking with our local wine supply store about corks and a corkingdevice, when he told me about something called tasting corks. They are a capwith a cork attached. He said that as long as you don't lay the bottle on itsside, they seal and preserve the wine just like a cork would. They arerelatively inexpensive 25 for $4.00. Has anyone tried these. You didn't add any additional water? With 100% juice and then concentrated from the boiling would make it very thick and syrupy wouldn't it?--- On Tue, 1/12/10, Steve wrote: From: Steve Subject: Re: [E-Z-Caps] using fresh fruit To: E-Z-Caps@yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 9:44 AM I EZ capped raspberry wine made from fresh raspberries that I picked as follows: I put all the raspberries through a juicer. Then I strained the resulting juice (tends to be pulpy) through pantyhose. Then I brought the mixture to boil and let it simmer for 20 minutes. Then I let it cool to room temperature, added a cup of sugar, and EZ capped it. I let it ferment for two weeks then put it in the fridge for a week. It was totally awesome. I only wish that I had more of it. At 06:28 PM 1/11/2010, you wrote: >I just started a batch of cranberry wine.
