  Stopping fermentation
Posted by: yahoo - 08-24-2005, 09:42 AM - Forum: Archives - Replies (1)

I know the instructions say to put it in the fridge, but that seemslike a short term stop. If I add a campden tablet to my cider/wine,will that stop the yeast to the point that I can glass bootle mybeverage and store at room temp, without making a glass grenade?I would like to be able to take my beverage on camping trips and togive to friends without wasting or endangering anything.WillumORGINAL POSTER: willum

Honey Mead pour 2 cups of honey into a 2 liter soda bottle and top off with apple juice or cranberry juice or a combination of both if you prefer. Add 1/8th tsp. of yeast.Ferment for 2 weeks. Clarify per standard practice. Chill to taste and Enjoy!(Sugar may be added to add to alcahol level with extended fermentation) Chase Masters wrote: could someone post a good recipe for mead using the ez caps? i've never had it before and am interested in making some! thanks! If you use apple juice, it's called cyser. The typicalrecipe for mead uses 3-4#'s of honey per gallon, so a 2l bottle should useabout 2 pounds.Pour the honey into the sterile bottle, add 100% fruit juice fromconcentrate (thawed to room temps and NO PRESERVATIVES!) Add spring waterto fill the bottle. Put the normal cap on the bottle and shake it upuntil the honey and juice are mixed into the water. Uncap the bottle, toss the yeast and follow the rest of the directions to make wine.I haven't tried this yet as I plan on ordering the EZ Caps next Fridaywhen I get paid next. Then I plan on making 5 gallons of cran-blueberrymelomel.Enjoy, and let me know if this works. At this point, it's just theory. WinkErikORGINAL POSTER: erik

Has anyone used EZ Caps to make honey wine/mead? I've got a fwe recipes for mead and I think I can see where EZ Caps would fit into the process. I already figured out that racking to 2l bottles would require 10 EZ Caps, now I am just wondering if I would just substitute these 10 bottles for the 5 gal carboy or if there are any ways that I can just use the EZ Cap system to make it from start to finish.
