Length of time you can keep your wine in...
Posted by: kaution - 04-07-2010, 07:45 PM - Forum: Recipes and questions - Replies (4)

Hello-I just got my caps and I had a question pretaining to storing wine. How long can we house the liquid wine in a plastic 2 litre bottle? After clarifying I would transfer my wine into another container possibly another 2 litre. Is there a length of time that one can store them in plastic or should they go immediately into a glass bottle? It seems like it would be a okay way to store for a set amount of time.

Thanx in advance for any feedback.

T.

Beer kits now for sale on eBay !
Posted by: ezcaps_phpbb3_import2 - 03-26-2010, 10:53 PM - Forum: Beer Kit - Replies (13)

Hello,

I posted a two-gallon and a four-gallon EZ Cap beer kits on eBay. Both are 7-day auctions. The purpose of the auctions is to try and get some idea of what the market thinks the value of these kits are. I'm not trying to see how high I can jack the price up on them, but I need to know what people think the value is. For all I know people think the value is less than my actual cost and I'm wasting my time. Our local brew store sells 3 pounds of DME for $17.99, an ounce of hops for over $6.00, and yeast is $3.00. Our starting price on the auction is far below that for comperable ingredients.

The best price break is going to be on four and six gallon kits because I can fit over 9 pounds of ingredients in the same flat rate box. Beer kits are heavy and there's not much I can do to control shipping costs except cram as much as I can into flat rate boxes.

  Sugar question. (And then some.)
Posted by: UglyBhamGuy - 03-24-2010, 04:09 PM - Forum: Wine - Replies (3)

According to the recipe that came with the caps, 90% of a 2liter with apple juice (i used white house) and 1-2 cups of sugar.
2 cups seemed to be a little much to me (is it?), but my wife doesn't like dry so i figured i would add the most recommended in the hopes that some might hang around after the fermentation was finished. As i have no 1/16th or 1/8th measuring apparatus i used a little less than half of a 1/4th of yeast.

It has been almost 5 full days and i have seen no more than pin bubbles. There are quite a few but less than you would see in a glass of cola or beer.

Now the flood of questions:

How long should i let this go before refrigerating it?
Can/should i bottle this? If so, when?
Is this too little yeast? Is there such a thing as too much?
Should i use a different yeast? If so, how much?
What type of yeast is it that comes with EZCaps?

  question about cider
Posted by: ezcaps_phpbb3_import2 - 03-14-2010, 06:14 PM - Forum: Cider - Replies (1)

Q: Hello, I just made my first batch of cider and it turned out a bit sulfery. I used organic apple juice and 1 cup of brown sugar. I tasted it at 3.5 days and it was good, but a little sweet. I let it go one more half a day and it got sulfery. It was at 70 degrees during the entire process. Any suggestions?

A: I've never had a drink turn out sulfery before- I'm wondering if it seems sulfery on the palate if it's too dry? You said the juice was organic which is not a problem, was it pasteurized?
